PREGNANCY 101

Easton Alden Prescott

We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first son, Easton, for the past eight months. This adventure has been wonderful and exciting from the get-go! Here is a little synapses of our journey!

My favorite part, so far, was telling Cody that he was going to be a Daddy-o. With some help from Robbie, I had him convinced that we were all going to the park to take some goofy pictures. Below are pictures of what he really found at our destination.

I found a GREAT song for breaking the news to family or friends in a special way. While Cody opened the ring box, I played this in the background

When the message got across, Cody started to tear up, causing his eyes to become hidden behind to lenses of fog.-Adorable!

During the first couple of weeks there was little physical change happening. We spent our time getting used to the idea of being parents.

We practiced our, 'I'm pregnant?!' faces:
s

We practiced our first diaper changing faces:

We practiced our 'Look at how cute our baby is,' faces...

And then I said goodbye to being able to fit in my clothes.

Our choice in hospital has been Good Samaritan in Corvallis, based on great feedback from our friends. The midwives have been excellent! I have also looked into a home-birth a tad, but maybe next time.

At ten weeks, we had our first appointment and ultrasound. My only worry was that we wouldn't see anything in there after all, but sure enough, a little baby was not only in there but moving around like crazy!

Then came the morning sickness....

To all of you going through this, feel free to compare notes.
Some main techniques used to help morning sickness include:

  • Eating ginger
  • Wearing wrist pressure point bands
  • Sucking on a lemon
  • Eating small snacks consistently ex: crackers
  • Eating salteens before getting out of bed

Personally, salteens were the only things to help me get through the night and unfortunately had no effect on the day time. Here is the list of what I found to work.

  • Wake up and eat 4 crackers around 4 am
  • Get out of bed and eat cereal first thing, (raisin brand is loaded with Folic acid!)
  • Never put fruit in an empty stomach, (my apologies to the customers of US bank the morning I learned this lesson)
  • Don't take your prenatal vitamin (I don't recommend this, but for me it was the difference of throwing up 9x per day or 3x)
  • Don't drive at night!
  • FOR NO REASON RISK EATING SPAGHETTI,  JELLO OR VEGETABLE SOUP

Finally, after the sickness part, I began to grow!!

No Children at Church?

Cody and I have been volunteering at Falls City Christian Church  for a couple months now, where we take turns each month, teaching a lesson to the kiddos. Not to brag, but we have discovered the keys to a successful lesson: games and candy. This month, I chose to stray from the typical 'bible story' theme and go over how to pray in general. Praying is such a beautiful, powerful and important aspect of our relationship with God. I mean come on, we stinkin' get free 24 hr access to talk to the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE. This trumps having Theo James's personal number on my speed dial, which I do; in my dreams. Come Sunday, I was giddy with excitement to teach my lesson! My growing anticipation was stunted however when alas, no children attended church that morning. Bummer eh? Not anymore! because luckily, I have this nifty little blog. So here it is; a 'would-have-been-epic' lesson on prayer! Open your hand and take a look, there should be fiv...

Don't worry it's totally normal...I think.

Parenthood is something else. The odd things I have begun to do are probably typical, at least I tell myself that! Here are some new things that I find happening every-so-often. If you can relate, wonderful, that means we can pretend this stuff is normal together!

A Belated Update

February 23, 2018 Dear friends and family,  Hello to you! We write this from the Salem NICU. Here we sit and watch the sky lighten and darken in a morphed cycle of hours that have all blended together. Cody and I have received your text messages and read your Facebook comments. Please accept our  apologies for the lack of information or response. Here is an update for all of you who have been wondering about our current situation. Where to start? We found out we were expecting, approximately three days after Cody cancelled his vasectomy and relented to go for “one more baby”. At 15 weeks I measured what would be a normal 20 week size. Two heart beats would clear up that confusion. Surprise! Cody replaced his hesitations about having three children with extreme excitement to have four. I however, was slightly terrified. They say if you can manage three kids that you can manage any number....I guess we’ll find out!  Loe and behold, our twin gir...
