How glorious is summer with all the ripening fruit that the Willamette Valley has to offer! As I sit here eating Doritos, I think about how crazy I would be to let the opportunity to eat healthy this summer slip through my fingers. My new goal is to take full advantage of the fresh produce we have so easily available to us. I will let you know what I find out!

Today I grabbed my camera and wallet after work and set out to find some produce. I drove down Riddel Rd. towards Dallas and passed a sign that read, 'Fresh Brown Eggs'. I followed the gravel road for a short time and on the right saw a sign and a small building.
They had a box for leaving your money. I wrote a check took some berries and eggs and was on my way, feeling successful.
Cody and I went for a walk later that evening, snacking on berries as we strolled.
The next morning, my lovely hubby was going to make us some eggs for breakfast but as you can see, we had a falling out...literally. What could be recovered was eaten and enjoyed!

Have you ever driven down Hwy 99 and seen that nursery with the blinking arrow? They have a sign that says, 'Strawberries'. I love strawberries, so last Friday, after work, Calvin and I headed down Hwy 99.
There came a point about halfway there that Calvin was tired and I had to go to the bathroom. We toughed it out and finally made it to our destination. Unfortunately, that giant blinking sign doesn't mean much. We were greeted by a strange Russian man that told us in very broken English that he wasn't the owner and the person who told him to sit there wasn't the owner either. He knew nothing about strawberries. The situation made me feel a little worried. What is more, when you are 7 months prego and have to go potty, you are in no position to fight off a Russian guy if he chooses to attack!
I called my father-in-law with desperation in my voice and he rushed over to pick us up.
Sorry, no amazing discovery of fruit this time guys! But at least we know where not to go!

Saturday I hit the amazing blueberry jackpot! Our family woke up early and drove over to the Blueberry Farm called, 'Anderson Blues'. They open at 8:00 am, but I would recommend arriving around 7:15 to get a good spot. Last weekend was their week for picking Spartans and they were HUGE! It is $1.75 per lbs, which is cheaper and much more fresh than anything you will find in stores. Cody and I only picked for about an hour but left with plenty to share with family and friends! I cant wait to go back for seconds.

Goat Milk?
I found a place right off of Buena Vista Rd. that has fresh eggs and you guessed it; fresh goat milk!
They recommend taking caution with unpasteurized milk, due to contaminants (especially when pregnant) and sellers are required to state its purpose being as for animals.
We risked it with the first mason jar since it was from that morning, but for the second jar we decided to try self pasteurizing. Thanks to directions from Google, the process was easy, just ask Cody, since he was the one to actually do it!
- First strain the milk with a boiled cloth to get any little pieces of goat hair out that may have snuck in.
- Heat the milk to around 165 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 seconds. We don't have a thermometer, so we heated it to just to the verge of a boil.
- Put the pot of milk into ice water to cool it down quickly. We read that the quicker it cools, the better the flavor.
- Vwala! Put your milk back in the mason jar and you are safe and sound.
