Genesis: Chapter 12

Notes:

  • God tells Abram to leave his country.
  • He promises to make him a great nation and bless him.
  • Abram leaves, taking his wife Sarai, nephew Lot and possessions and then travels to Canaan.
  • God says he will give the land to the offspring of Abram and Abram builds an alter.
  • They travel to the hills east of Bethel, Negev and then down to Egypt because of a famine.
  • Abram tells his beautiful wife to pretend to be his sister so that the Egyptians won't kill him and take her.
  • The Pharaoh sees how beautiful Sarai is and treats Abram well for her sake, giving him livestock and servants.
  • The Lord inflicts diseases on Pharaoh and his household.
  • Because of this Pharaoh tells him to take his wife and go, then his men send Abram on his way with all that he had.

Side Notes:

  • Abram left his home and all that he knew in order to obey God. Respect.
  • Why an alter? In this time people built alters to pray and worship as well as remember Gods promises. Likewise, it is good for us to worship God and reflect often on His desires for our life. By worshiping God and putting Him in the center of my life I am more motivated to obey him.
  • I find it interesting that God give Abram Caanan and then BAM  he needs to go to Egypt for food. It would have been easy to look at that situation and question Gods plan. ëx: "Why did you bring me here and give me land only so that I would have to leave it?" But Abram never weakened in his faith.
  • When Abram says that Sarai is his sister, it is actually true. She was his half sister. She was also his wife though, which he purposefully left out. This is a perfect way to see where God sits with half lies or omitting parts of truth. By doing this Abram is not trusting for Gods protection and gets himself into a world of hurt.

Throw back to Pregnancy #1

We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first son, Easton, for the past seven months. This adventure has been wonderful and exciting from the get-go! Here is a little synapses of our journey!

An Updated Update

Excitement and terror. Those two feelings were playing a heated game of Tug o’ war on my uncertain state of mind. Then, they met up with thankfulness and guilt, for a round of doubles. We were leaving the NICU. Why the battle of emotions? Here is the current update on Annette, Charlotte, and the rest of us Prescotts.  No more goodbyes and counting the days until we will see the boys next; this week we got to go home! It happened so fast. During the weekend we trained how to insert and maintain Charlotte's NG tube on our own, and then, badda-bing, badda-boom, we were discharged! We gathered our belongings and walked straight out the door with baby girls in tow, just as I had imagined it from inside alcove #3553, for 47 days. It would have been all sunshine and roses too, if not for the previous day. The baby didn't make it. I didn’t need to see the blotchy cheeks and tear-stained faces of family members to put it together; in the NICU you just listen to the beeps. Dings a...
