Genesis; Background and Chapter 1

(working from the New International Version)

The first book we find in the bible is Genesis, which means, "beginnings" or "origin". This is an account referred to as the Book of Moses written from 1450-1410 B.C., somewhere in the Sinai peninsula. At that time his audience was the people of Israel and therefore the original language in which it was recorded is Hebrew.

Genesis has fifty chapters, starting with creation and ending with the death of Joseph. The events in these chapters took place starting at creation and ending in the year 1805 B.C.The setting is the Middle East.

Chapter 1

This is an outline of Gods creation

Day 1=heavens, earth, light (separates from darkness)

Day 2=water and sky
Day 3=ground, seas, vegetation
Day 4=lights (planets and stars)...to mark seasons, days years
Day 5=creatures of water and birds
Day 6=livestock, man
Day 7=rest (chapter 2)

Favorite verse:

"Then God said,'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness'..." -Genesis 1:26

This is my favorite verse because to know that God created man in His image means that each of us are given the ability to reflect His character through love, patience, forgiveness, kindness, and faithfulness. If you ever doubt your self-worth, think back to this beautiful fact!

An Updated Update

Excitement and terror. Those two feelings were playing a heated game of Tug o’ war on my uncertain state of mind. Then, they met up with thankfulness and guilt, for a round of doubles. We were leaving the NICU. Why the battle of emotions? Here is the current update on Annette, Charlotte, and the rest of us Prescotts.  No more goodbyes and counting the days until we will see the boys next; this week we got to go home! It happened so fast. During the weekend we trained how to insert and maintain Charlotte's NG tube on our own, and then, badda-bing, badda-boom, we were discharged! We gathered our belongings and walked straight out the door with baby girls in tow, just as I had imagined it from inside alcove #3553, for 47 days. It would have been all sunshine and roses too, if not for the previous day. The baby didn't make it. I didn’t need to see the blotchy cheeks and tear-stained faces of family members to put it together; in the NICU you just listen to the beeps. Dings a...
